Magritte was a friend of my Belgian Aunt's. He offered her family a painting but her mother (my Great Aunt Marie) refused saying "I would not geev eet 'ouse rheum." So I did not inherit an original Magritte, sadly. But I have made my own. This was made while my husband was in remission from cancer, somehow reminding us of the finite nature of relationships and that we have to make the most of every moment we have together. She is clearly a lover of the arts, while he represents a love of world cultures. I also made it as a thank you to Grayson Perry who chose two of my photographs for his yellow room in 2018. I feel Uncle Rene and Grayson would have been great friends, and Philippa Perry would not have turned down the offer of a painting!!
