Through this work I process the feelings of helplessness and fear experienced in the recent pandemic. The odd couple in the painting is on a peaceful walk in a peaceful town. The glass house, in which asparagus seats, is a symbol of our attempts to protect our most vulnerable and loved ones from a hostile world. But this protection comes at the cost of life in a cage. Does the object of our care benefit from this protection, does it make them happy? Or does happiness even matter in such a dangerous world?

Paper collage, Acrylics

Two people holding hands is a powerful symbol of physical closeness. A seemingly simple act, it is a mean to link oneself to another. But the ability to touch has become a luxury we can no longer afford during these uncertain pandemic times. This piece is the artist’s attempt to process the bitterness felt from so many rituals that may be lost forever. The glitch in the main element of the collage is a glimpse from a parallel reality, a reality where pandemic never happened.

Support: watercolour paper.

Painting is sold unframed.

Cut outs are harvested from Anthony Van Dyck painting 'William II, Prince of Orange, and his Bride, Mary Stuart'
