Inspired by my local Cornish coastal landscape, I paint in acrylics exploring different colour palettes and techniques to express my surroundings.    I use photos and memories of my daily walk with my dog along the Coast Path as the basis of my paintings. Using layers of thin glazes over marks which get covered but not lost, I aim to create rich vibrant colours.  Unexpected results are achieved by allowing the paintings to be process led without a pre conceived outcome.  Paintings often wait for weeks until I decide what to do next.  

As part of my MA I made a body of paintings about my local woodland in Spring, which I showed as an installation amongst ferns and greenery. I added a soundscape which I created using sounds captured in the woods - with intrusions of a chainsaw, traffic and a plane overhead.  The context concerned the psychological, environmental and ecological importance of our woodland.  

I am emerging rather late as a painter, the course of my life having been altered by my daughter's brain injury in 1983, requiring me to be her carer until recently.  I achieved a BA in Woven and Printed Textiles at Farnham in 1972 and have painted from childhood throughout my life.  I  taught in Adult Education for many years, and have a PGCE.

Over the last five years I have attended Newlyn School of Art on two year-long courses, and have recently graduated from Falmouth University with an MA in Fine Art (which was online).  These experiences have been transformative, helping me to find my artistic voice and confidence in my work, as well as a deeper understanding of contemporary art.  

My work is hanging in The Old Bank gallery in Fowey, Cornwall and I have recently participated in a pop-up exhibition at the Royal William Yard in Plymouth.
